FALAFELS

You’ve heard about them.

You know they’re an ancient treat.

So, have you ever thought to create them in your very own home?

Why do we look the other way when it comes to creating a homemade falafel? Is it too hard? Is it the deep-frying? Well, it’s time! Time to make something you’ve never thought you could create. Follow our easy peasy recipe, with minimal effort and time…

No Hassle Baked Falafel

No Hassel Baked Falafel

Traditionally, falafels were made with fava beans and fried to make a delectable crispy coat but today we are mastering the falafel with the goodness of chickpeas. No need to test out those deep-frying skills because turning on your oven might be the hardest step!

To start on your first falafel making experience, pick up the following ingredients:

1 ½ cup Kabuli! Chickpeas*

½ cup onion

½ Tsp salt

3 tbsp olive oil

½ cup packed parsley leaves

¼ cup cilantro

3 garlic cloves

½ Tsp cumin

1 tsp coriander

½ Tsp baking powder

1 tsp lemon juice

For the next step a food processor or blender may come in handy, but it isn’t a must. If you are without those appliances, just grab a fork or a potato masher and use some elbow grease for the alternative. Blend all ingredients together until our Kabuli! Chickpeas are chopped and thoroughly mixed with all ingredients. Next, create small patties from the dough, roughly 2″ wide, and place onto a non-stick baking sheet. Bake these delicious treats for fifteen minutes, at 375° F,  then flip and bake another ten minutes. Let the patties rest for five minutes as you prepare your pita toppings. You’ll know they’re done in the oven when they start to have a beautiful crispy look.

Our test kitchen loves to whip up these oh-so-yummy treats for lunch with toppings from the garden and pitas from our local bakery. Don’t forget to find your favorite tahini dressing from your local grocery store too.

We hope this easy No Hassle Baked Falafel recipe allows you to enjoy the tradition of this dish in your very own home with our 13 Foods Kabuli! Chickpeas.

Never underestimate the power of the frozen beans!

Frozen Beans? Well, if you haven’t heard of about these magical beans, you’re in the right spot!

Years ago, our founder had an innovative idea…Frozen Beans! Yes, that’s right, frozen. He imaged opening his freezer to bags full of ready-to-use lentils, chickpeas, black and red beans with no additives. Just naturally frozen beans, no salt, and no preservatives. After a year of sourcing the perfect beans and testing his cooking process, he was ready for production!

Product Bags

Fun fact: Black beans, red beans, lentils, and chickpeas are harvested dry! To cook a bean, it must be rehydrated with water and cooked (boiled).

Since the first production date, 13 Foods has been delivering the oh-so-tasty beans to your grocer’s freezers. To many people’s surprise, these beans have not only eliminated the labor-intensive cooking process, but also all the additives found in a can.  We have received review after review from our customers praising us about our beans’ flavors and textures. Our founder’s goal was to create good and delicious beans, and thanks for our loyal customers’ comments, we believe we have accomplished his goal.

So, why don’t you be brave next time you’re in the freezer aisle and grab a bag or two. And please don’t worry, we have the perfect recipe for you to make over here {find delicious recipes here}!

This week we are giving you the inspiration to think outside of the recipe! Do remember the blog post about the tasty Lentil Caprese Salad? {find recipe here}

Good!

Now, find that recipe and grab some crostini’s because we are making an appetizer out of this simple, delicious recipe!

Greek Salad

This dish is opposite of neat and tidy. It’s all about the slice and dice: chunky tomatoes and cucumbers as the base. We left that boring lettuce behind for this salad; most authentic Greek salads do not involve it anyway. Elevate your dish with a gorgeous mix of
artisan heirloom tomatoes.

Today, we are focusing on a simplistic, but oh-so-delicious Greek salad. It involves a knife, cutting board, bowls and the ingredients. Yes, that’s right! No use of the grill, oven, nor stovetop in this meal prep. Easy Peasy, y’all!

Are you ready? Let’s go! Whip out those ingredients from the cooled pantry [refrigerator & freezer] and dry pantry:

Salad

1 cup Kabuli! Chickpeas

1 cup Cucumbers

1 cup Cherry tomatoes

½ Red Onion, chopped

½ cup Pitted Kalamata Olives (optional)

½ cup Feta

Dressing

¼ cup Olive Oil

2 Tbsp Red Wine Vinegar

1 Juice of a Lemon

1 tsp Sugar, to taste

½ tsp Garlic, minced

1 tsp Oregano, dried

1 tsp Parsley, dried

½ tsp Salt

½ tsp Pepper

Now, let’s get to chopping those cucumbers, tomatoes, and onion!

Greek Salad

Place them into a bowl for mixing. Measure and pour those Kabuli! Chickpeas into the same bowl. But first, make sure you follow the bag instructions!

Greek Salad

How did that go?

Easy?

Good!

Let’s start on the dressing!

Pour and whip the ingredients together in a separate bowl: oil, vinegar, lemon juice, minced garlic, dried oregano, parsley, salt and pepper. You’re going to add a touch of sweetness to this vinegar dressing. No one wants the vinegar bite in every mouth full of salad they eat!

Greek Salad

This is the fun step! Use your creativity…please don’t measure, just sprinkle! A whole lot of sprinkling of feta cheese.

The other day we went on a scavenger hunt in 13 Foods Mama’s garden. We were able to collect a few beautiful ingredients for this salad with the help of the local market’s stand and grocery store. With a basket full of goodies and Kabuli! Chickpea ready to roast…we began the simple steps of creating a sweetly, tangy sauce for the last step in this salad creation.

After the chickpeas were placed in the oven, we began the simple steps of creating a sweetly, tangy sauce for the last step in this salad creation.

Once Kabuli! Chickpeas are roasted, sauce is made, and ingredients are chopped, we…

Combined all the ingredients!

Don’t forget to leave a handful of roasted chickpeas aside as your salad styling and hungry tummy will be happy!

Pour the sauce in intervals as you toss the ingredients together.

Grab a few of those roasted chickpeas to sprinkle on top.

Delicious! An easy, fool-proof summer salad!

To make the salad, simply toss all the ingredients together to combine but hold that yummy balsamic glaze to the side. The 13 Foods test kitchen loves to use a balsamic vinegar from a local oil and vinegar store, but any glaze or regular balsamic vinegar will work great too!
